While I was backpacking throughout Europe in the Winter of 2015/16, the decision of where to spend Christmas was easy. As a Girl Guide, I knew that there was a place I could go and spend Christmas and feel like I was with family: Our Chalet, in Adelboden Switzerland.
Our Chalet is one of the 5 World Guiding Centres, run by WAGGGS (the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). I spent a week over Christmas there, and got up to some awesome activities which were organised by staff there, giving me a much needed break while I was halfway through my journey.
During my week long stay in Our Chalet I participated in so many awesome activities, like Swiss campfire building and cooking, a night hike (with snow shoeing) to the famous “magic tree,” a hike to visit the woodcarvers, exploring Adelboden town, a traditional Swiss night with all the Our Chalet guests, a hike to Engstligen Falls where we had a campfire BBQ, snow tubing atop Engstligen Alp, Christmas Eve Dinner and celebrations, Christmas day brunch, and finishing up with a Christmas campfire.
If you’re looking for a fun way to spend some time in the Swiss Alps, learn about the culture, and enjoy plenty of outdoor activities check out Our Chalet, you don’t have to be a member of WAGGGS to visit!
